Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and some local florists say business is better than expected.
In the beginning of March, when New Rochelle was under a containment zone, News 12 reported on Alessias Floral Decorators, and things did not look good
At the time, the business was suffering, nearly forcing the owner to close down. But they have persevered and with Valentine’s Day just days away, owner Eddie Loprete hopes the worst is behind them. “It’s been tough. We had a rough summer. A lot of weddings got postponed. Then as weather got better, business picked up with outdoor parties, which helped a little bit. Unfortunately we had to let go of some of our staff. Then, things got a little better in the fall and COVID shut us down again. With Valentine’s Day, we see a little hope,” says Loprete.
Loprete says this is their busiest time of the year next to Mother's Day.  But this year with the pandemic, they're doing better than they expected because many of his customers are not going away or eating out as much as they usually would, and in turn, helping to boost his business. "This year they're staying home, they're cooking, and they're ordering more flowers. Which is great for us and it really helps."
