A female-owned general store in Park Slope has reopened with new safety measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Annie's Blue Ribbon General Store has been around for about 13 years.

Owner Ann Cantrell says she closed the store a week before the city shut down for safety reasons. She says the business was able to sell products online and transition to curbside pickup, but it still felt the financial impacts of being closed for months.

Cantrell says the store now has hand sanitizing stations, free masks for customers who need them, a sneeze guard at the register and less people are allowed in the store at a time to help customers with social distancing.

The store sells a variety of items including games and self-care items. They now also carry masks and hand sanitizers.

"Just doing tons of cleaning, always sanitizing the situation as much as we can and just being really cautious," Cantrell says. "We just really need community right now. That's why I'm just so happy we're open, as well."

Cantrell says that as a small business owner she is hoping that other small businesses will be able to thrive through the pandemic.
