The U.S. Military Academy at West Point will honor the late President Jimmy Carter with ceremonial cannon blasts every 30 minutes from dawn until dusk today.
President Carter, the longest-living former American president, passed away Sunday at the age of 100. His family has not yet disclosed the cause of death.
President Carter served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and was renowned for his humanitarian work, including his efforts with Habitat for Humanity and negotiating peace deals.
In recognition of President Carter's remarkable life, President Joe Biden has proclaimed Jan. 9, 2025, as a National Day of Mourning, calling on Americans to pay homage to his memory. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
