A police investigation is underway after officials say someone illegally dumped dozens of tires at Tibbets Brook Park in Yonkers late last week.
The tires have remained in the park and have become an eyesore for visitors, such as mother and son Eileen and Demond Slattery, of Yonkers.
"This is the start of the summer, so a lot more people are showing up now and to just have this appear here right during that time after these guys have taken care of this park for so long, it's definitely, it's not good," Demond Slattery said.
People continue to turn to Westchester's parks as the pandemic continues. It's been an opportunity for people to get out of their homes safely and has left many to question why someone would do this in the first place.
"Come on, there are places that you can take things to, salvage dumps whatever. I'm sure you could take it back to a tire place that can get disposed of it. Why would they bring it to a park?" Eileen Slattery said.
Westchester County said it's working with the Department of Environmental Conservation to get the park cleaned up this week.
