Westchester County Executive George Latimer is speaking out about Holtec International's plan to fast-track dumping radioactive waste from the former Indian Point nuclear power plant station into the Hudson River.
The controversial plan has caused community backlash because of possible environmental health effects.
Latimer is among others who disagree with the plan, saying a public meeting needs to be held for residents and professionals to look at all the decommissioning options and select the best one.
"It's not a matter to be dealt with like this. What's the most convenient way? What's the least expensive way. You need to analyze publicly all of the different options that are before you," says Latimer.
The next Indian Point decommissioning meeting is scheduled for April 27.
