Westchester County Executive George Latimer dedicated a memorial plaque today honoring the Rising Sun Golf & Country Club, the first Black-owned golf and country club in the county, at Hudson Hills Golf Course in Ossining.

Latimer praised the club's founders for their perseverance in the face of adversity, highlighting their resilience as groundbreaking entrepreneurs.

Established in 1936, the club faced racism and financial challenges but operated successfully for a season before bankruptcy led to its closure in 1939.

Today, the Hudson Hills Golf Course occupies the former club's land, marking a significant part of Westchester's history.
