Westchester County passes landmark 'Access to Counsel' bill
The Westchester County Board of Legislators just passed a new law that will offer legal representation if the applicant’s income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty line or 60% of the county's area median income – whichever is higher.

There is new legal help available for anyone who faces eviction and meets certain income requirements.
The Westchester County Board of Legislators just passed a new law that will offer legal representation if the applicant’s income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty line or 60% of the county's area median income – whichever is higher.
They will be able to get help from an attorney for evictions and other proceedings, including unlawful rent increases and cases in which a landlord illegally locks out tenants.
The new law establishes the Office of Housing Counsel. Next, a director will be hired, and that person will have six months to create a plan of action.
