A new plan by Westchester County aims to turn apartments in Port Chester into affordable housing for dozens of families.
Former employees of the now closed New York United Medical Center, thought they would be losing their on-site apartments after the medical center went bankrupt. However, Westchester County is proposing to buy the staff residence building at market value and sell it back to the current managers for $1. Under the new proposal made to the bankruptcy court, apartments will remain affordable for the next 40 years.
The medical center declared bankruptcy and closed its doors in March after several years of financial setbacks. There's no word yet as to when the court will make its final decision regarding the property.
