Westchester homeowners will get another property tax cut next year if the county Board of Legislators approves the budget released Thursday.
County officials said they focused this budget on tackling issues the community is concerned about like public safety, inflation and quality of life.
The $2.4 billion budget includes a $6 million tax cut -- the fourth in a row under Westchester County Executive George Latimer. County officials say they did this in part by using the increased sales tax it received this year from the rising cost of goods to offset the cost of other budget items.
"We can do this with a little less money out of your wallet," says Latimer.
Westchester is also funding public safety at $260 million, the highest amount ever. There is another $220 million in community health and $60 million in parks and recreation.
"If we say we're for helping people but there's no backup to help then it's just rhetoric and we believe in results," says Latimer.
The county was able to balance the books without borrowing, one-shot deals, or using the fund balance.
"Together we're going to provide a budget that keeps people healthy, safe, and provides them with recreational opportunities at the best possible use of our resources ," says Board of Legislators Chairwoman Catherine Borgia.
The county is also holding a series of public hearings on the budget.
