The Westchester County District Attorney's Office is revealing additional information in the high-profile case of a Westchester woman detained for more than two weeks after she was arrested for a misdemeanor.
Prosecutors say 50-year-old Elizabeth Weinstein was arrested July 3 in East Hampton, Long Island after violating a restraining order for telling her children that she loved them.
Weinstein is currently facing seven counts of misdemeanor criminal contempt for violating family and criminal court orders in Westchester and Suffolk counties – according to the Westchester District Attorney’s Office.
The mother of three is being held in Westchester County Jail without bail for a psychiatric evaluation on a prior bail jumping charge in Briarcliff.
Weinstein’s attorney, George Hritz, says her competency exam was moved up to today from mid-August following the media attention of the case, and that he’s working with his client on a ‘Habeus Corpus’ petition seeking her immediate release.
An attorney for Weinstein's estranged husband had no comment.
