Images have been shared by NASA of the recent intentional collision of a spacecraft and an asteroid.

The photos showed debris from the impact creating a comet-like tail that split in two after a few weeks.

The Hubble Space Telescope and others captured the images that begin more than an hour before impact.

The goal of the mission was to attempt to change the speed of a traveling asteroid, one that was ultimately successful.
