The First Baptist Church of White Plains was first established in 1871, helping the community heal after the Civil War.
News 12 is told Spanish bible study was started as White Plains became more culturally diverse. This transitioned the church into a fully Hispanic congregation.
"We do accept everyone regardless of who you are, what you think, what you look like, who you choose to love,” said Cathy Berdick, a long-standing member of the church. “Personally, I am a recovering alcoholic, and this church has so embraced me."
The First Baptist Church of White Plains recently decided to merge with the Iglesia Mision Baltista Hispana.
