White Plains residents gathered Tuesday evening for the city’s annual National Night Out, an event designed to strengthen relationships between the community and the police officers, firefighters and other first responders who serve them.
The Public Safety Building was transformed into a family-friendly celebration featuring police cars, fire trucks, emergency equipment, food and activities. Families had the opportunity to meet first responders, ask questions, explore emergency vehicles and learn more about the services available throughout the city.
Organizers say the annual event helps build trust by creating opportunities for residents and public safety personnel to connect in a relaxed setting.
“It’s a way for the community to build a better relationship with our public safety officials,” said White Plains resident Marie Houston. “Over the years, it got broken. So this is an awesome way to repair. You have your firefighters, you have your policemen. We have all come together to be one big, huge family in the city of White Plains tonight.”
White Plains Public Safety officials say National Night Out continues to grow each year, with dozens of community organizations joining police and fire personnel to connect residents with local resources while promoting stronger neighborhood partnerships.
