A White Plains woman diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about 26 years ago will be competing in a 60-mile bike race for charity.
Leah Portnoy Worenklein, 50, says that movement therapy has helped her get out of bed and eventually out of a wheelchair. The annual Tour de Simcha race beginning and ending at Camp Simcha in Glen Spey on Aug. 5 will be benefiting Chai Lifeline, an international children's health support network.
"If you're in the sickness and you stay in it, you're just going to stay in it. If you get out of it in your mind, you can actually get out of it," she says.
