A witness who testified in a Spring Valley nightclub murder trial Wednesday shed new light on what may have led the shooting.
Patrice Thomas testified she saw the defendant, Carlos Herring, shoot Don Thompson outside Club Horizen last August. She claims the two men could have fought over the same woman, the mother of Thompson's child. Herring was dating the woman, but had an argument with her in the club. Thomas says Herring later witnessed Thompson hugging the woman.
DNA and fingerprint experts also took the stand. The prosecution believes their testimony helps link Herring to the crime. More prosecution witnesses are expected in the coming days, including Spring Valley detectives who handled the case.
Herring faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of the murder charge.
