A woman is facing charges after an alleged assault involving a resident at a Dutchess County rehabilitation and nursing care center.

New York State Police said the incident involved a resident under the woman's care.

Authorities said 65-year-old Valerie Giblin was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly slapped the resident.

Troopers were called last week for a welfare check at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Staatsburg, state police said.

Giblin is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

She was released and is scheduled to appear in Hyde Park Town Court later this month.
