Yonkers police are investigating a larceny that took place at a local bakery. Now, the owner of another business nearby is claiming that her company was also a victim of theft.

A video that shows what appears be a man crawling on the ground and taking a box from La Pinata Bakery on Tuesday started to gain popularity on the Citizen App.

Wednesday coverage

Joli Patel, the owner of nearby Getty's Wine & Liquor, says the same person took a case from their store a few days ago.

"Same person. Same guy. I saw the video," Patel says.

Patel says the person who initially stole from her store tried to return to her business two more times.

She says the latest attempt was last night.

"7 p.m. I have my customer. He was talking and he called me and he said, 'Is this the guy?' and I said, 'Yes, he wears green short.' I went outside and said, 'Yes, that's him.' So, he ran away," Patel says.

While Yonkers police confirmed that they're investigating a larceny at the bakery, they say the incident at the wine shop wasn't reported to them.

"No, I did not report it," Patel says. "We're watching to catch him really."

In the meantime, Sara Brody, from the Yonkers Downtown Business Improvement District, is encouraging entrepreneurs to be proactive.

"Well, all the businesses can protect themselves going forward by, one, having anybody who tries to rob or take anything from their store to immediately call the police and to immediately fill out a trespassing form," Brody says.

Brody says the measure could help keep the business district vibrant.

The vibrancy was one of the reasons why Edward Mensah, a new resident in Yonkers, says he chose to move the city in the first place.

"It's a very good neighborhood, especially where I live," Mensah says.
