The daughter of an elderly Yonkers woman is outraged at the way she says police officers treated her mother when she wandered off last month.

Mary Burton says her 86-year-old mother, who suffers from dementia, wandered off from her Yonkers senior citizen home in the middle of the night on March 13. According to Burton, a cab driver found her mother, Ella Toone, at a gas station and took her to a police station.

"At the precinct, there were a number of officers there. They went through my mother's purse, found her address and turned her back to the cab driver," Burton claims she was informed by the cabbie.

Burton says the cab driver called her early that morning to say that her mother couldn't get into her building.

Burton has since filed a civilian complaint with the Yonkers Police Department. She says more should have been done to help her mother.

Police didn't comment on the situation, but did say there is an investigation into the incident.
