A world and national champion cheerleader from New Rochelle has died unexpectedly.

According to his obituary, Eric Ortiz was just 30 years old when he died on Saturday.

The cause of death has not been released.

New Rochelle cheerleading posted a photo on Instagram saying, “This is a tough one. The New Ro family lost a shining star yesterday. Eric Ortiz, there aren’t enough words to describe what you meant to everyone. You brightened up a room the minute you entered. A National and World Champion, but most importantly, a son, brother, uncle, and friend. Our hearts are forever broken and we will miss you. Til we meet again.”

According to Ortiz’s obituary, visitation services are Thursday at the Sisto Funeral Home in the Bronx from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.
