The Bronx District Attorney?s office and top investigators have teamed up to look into a Mount Eden fire that claimed the lives of two firefighters.
The lead investigator at the World Trade Center site and fire officials are at the scene of a discount store blaze on Walton Avenue. The floor collapsed as firefighters were inside, trapping several of them in the basement on Sunday. Rookie FDNY firefighter Michael Reilly, 25, and veteran Lieutenant Howard Carpluk, 43 died as a result of the three-alarm blaze. Officials have said they do not believe the fire is suspicious.
Store owners say they are trying to get back to business as usual, but with an active investigation scene nearby, many customers are staying away.
