The couple charged in the scalding deaths of two children were arraigned in Yonkers Saturday.
Police say 25-year-old Luz Arroyo, the mother of the two boys, and 31-year-old David Maldonado, the father of one of the boys, were charged in the deaths of the children. According to authorities, Arroyo and Maldonado left 2-year-old Elijiah Santana and 1-year-old David Maldonado in a bathroom as scalding hot water overflowed from the bathtub.
By the time police arrived, both boys were in cardiac arrest. Investigators say they suffered second-degree burns and later died. Police say Arroyo and Maldonado were high on drugs and apparently fell asleep leaving the boys to die.
Arroyo was charged with criminally negligent homicide and drug possession. Maldonado was charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon and drug possession. They were remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail and will appear again in court on Monday.
