The city announced Friday a new, state-of-the-art fitness station is housed at Stefanik Park.
To help promote healthy lifestyles, Yonkers is providing residents with the equipment needed to break a sweat outdoors.
"It's our part that we're doing to help residents. But we're not doing it alone, we're doing it in concert with someone like Styles P., the artist,” says Yonkers mayor Mike Spano.
Surrounded by local officials at the park, Spano gave the keys to the city to local hip-hop legend Styles P.
The rapper is one-third of the iconic group The Lox, and was instrumental in getting outdoor gym spaces in Yonkers parks.
"A lot of people in the inner-city Yonkers, especially after the pandemic, even before, can't afford a gym membership. Just a point for the community to make a healthier community,” says the rapper.
The $75,000 fitness station features parallel bars, workout ladders and jump steps.
Stefanik is now the fifth park in Yonkers equipped with workout necessities.
News 12 is told the goal is to have some sort of outdoor fitness area at all parks in the city to promote an overall feeling of wellbeing for residents.
"Health for the children, health for the adults…health for families,” says Styles P.
