A stone wall of a city-owned greenhouse in Yonkers collapsed this morning, leaving the greenhouse on Ravine Avenue fully exposed.
The collapse occurred around 7:30 a.m. There were no injuries or damage to parked cars. Ravine Avenue is a dead-end street adjacent to Trevor Park near the Hudson River Museum, so traffic was not affected.
The plants housed inside the greenhouse are utilized for beautification projects in Yonkers parks and other areas across the city. Residents of the nearby apartment building expressed surprise upon witnessing the collapse.
Workers at the scene estimated that the greenhouse, which has stood for close to 70 years, will likely be completely torn down following the incident.
