A Yonkers man was arrested overnight after an apparent domestic dispute that led to a stabbing and intensified into a full-out brawl in the city.
The man allegedly slashed a female victim in the face with a small knife overnight Friday, according to police.
Police believe it may have begun as a domestic dispute and heightened into a melee.
Footage given to Yonkers police detectives appears to show bystanders putting the woman in a car and driving her to a hospital after suffering injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to officials.
The incident unfolded at a section of McLean Avenue around 3 a.m. and was captured on security cameras that were originally put in place as a measure against similar acts of violence.
Z Deli City owner Abdulmalik Deumah put the security measure in place.
On Friday, he was woken up to a call from police looking to access those cameras just hours before he was set to open his doors.
"I'm not going to feel safe coming to work if this happens any morning, like it can get worse," he says.
"If I knew what was going on and I was here, I wouldn't be here. I would close up definitely," says Joe Sciascia, owner of Joe's Antiques.
Some business owners and residents say they'd like improved public safety by increasing overnight police patrols, changing state bail reform laws, and having better enforcement of bar and restaurant curfews.
Police say the suspect in the slashing is now charged with felony assault.
