A session for the Yonkers Police Department's Emergency Service Unit on Tuesday proved to be incredibly timely - at least for a snake.
Officers received training on reptile handling, and on Wednesday, they put that knowledge to use.
The Emergency Service Unit received its first call of the day - a snake sighting in the lobby of an apartment building.
The snake, a full-grown northern brown snake measuring over a foot long, had found its way into the building.
The species is native to the area and is nonvenomous.
Officers quickly put their training to use, safely capturing the snake and relocated it to a wooded area nearby.
The snake was most likely seeking shelter due to the sudden drop in temperatures outside.
