For the first time, the Yonkers Police Department has released footage showing its "Drone as a First Responder" program in action.
Police launched the drone from the top of St. Joseph's Medical Center on Saturday, July 20 at around 10:30 p.m. for a car on fire, according to the public flight logs.
Video shows the drone locating the car at 290 Riverdale Ave. before first responders got to the scene.
The footage jumps forward to show firefighters putting the flames out, and then the drone uses thermal imaging to locate hot spots and prevent potential flare-ups.
According to public data, the police have launched the drone 21 times in July since beginning its two-month pilot program earlier this month.
