Police are searching for the person who fatally stabbed a Yonkers business owner.
Surveillance video captured some of the last moments that Ruben Martinez was alive as he chased down an alleged thief who had stolen a hat.
Martinez was stabbed more than once in broad daylight in front of his business, Premier Fashion. It happened just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Yonkers police say moments before the stabbing, the suspect got into a fight with a cab driver on New Main Street. They say he then walked over to the store where he grabbed the hat.
"He was hitting him with a stick, that's what I saw, I saw that he was being stabbed and he just ran off, the guy," says witness Elizabeth Pina.
Martinez's four children declined on-camera interviews, but say the shop was the Mexican immigrant's American dream. They say he moved his growing business to its current location a month ago after 10 successful years down the block.
Customers and local residents came by the shop and lit candles in the wake of the violence.
A GoFundMe has raised thousands of dollars in less than 24 hours.
