Officials say the decision was made after seeing a dramatic spike in cases last month.

The new guidelines require you to mask up in the following situations:
- At any indoor town facility
- If you're a non-vaccinated employee working indoors
- If you're a public-facing employee interacting with a customer, regardless of your vaccination status
"We're recognizing that the root of the cases are going up, but not nearly at the rate that they were earlier this year. But I think we're seeing is a proactive steps in order to mitigate the true impact it could have," says Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater.
Yorktown, which had a good grasp on the pandemic until recently, has seen COVID-19 cases increase from 4 to 60 in just the last month. Slater says that while no one wants to undergo restrictions, it is necessary for the safety of the public.
"We've already seen a couple spikes last year, earlier this year…We need to take the proactive steps to make sure that we protect our employees and the general public," he says.
In addition to the restrictions that will go into effect on Monday, Slater says the town will be offering free pop-up vaccination sites to encourage residents to get vaccinated.
