The Yorktown Town Board found a new way to honor an officer who died earlier this month after a sudden illness.
During Tuesday night's meeting, the town board voted to lower flags to half-staff every Jan. 2, the day Kenneth Sgroi died.
In addition, March 16 will now be known as Capt. Kenneth Sgroi Act of Kindness Day.
Town Supervisor Thomas Diana says there are plans to rename the plaza between the police department and the court after Sgroi.
There will be a rededication ceremony, but there's no date for it yet.
The 37-year-old was posthumously promoted to captain.
