Yorktown's police plaza unveiled a new look Friday, thanks in part to a labor of love by late Town Supervisor Tom Diana before he died in January.

Four local labor unions repaired the broken steps at police headquarters and the justice court.

They also fixed broken curbs, relocated the handicapped parking, and added pavement and landscaping.

"Part of our commitment to redoing the infrastructure in our town is making sure that we also help create jobs for the people within the Town of Yorktown and the surrounding areas that are good paying jobs with protections and proper training," said Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman.

Lachterman added that making Diana's dream come true was important and that the town hopes to install a plaque there in Diana's honor.

The police plaza will be renamed in honor of Police Capt. Kenneth Sgroi, who died in January of 2023.
