Enjoy the pick of the week today, with ideal weather conditions across the region. Expect abundant sunshine, light winds, low humidity, and afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 70s.
Conditions remain quiet Tuesday night, with partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures. However, a gradual shift in the wind pattern will allow humidity levels to increase on Wednesday, signaling the beginning of a more unsettled stretch of weather.
Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, along with the chance for a few spotty showers or isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Rain coverage is expected to remain limited, and most locations will stay dry for much of the day. While it will not be a washout, keeping rain gear nearby is recommended.
Attention then turns to Thursday as a stronger storm system approaches the Hudson Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the region under a Slight Risk, or Level 2 out of 5, for severe thunderstorms.
Damaging wind gusts will be the primary concern, with some storms capable of producing winds between 50 and 60 mph or higher. Additional threats include hail up to 1 inch in diameter and heavy downpours that could lead to localized ponding on roads and poor-drainage flooding.
While showers and thunderstorms are possible at any point during the day, the early afternoon currently appears to be the timeframe with the greatest potential for stronger storms. Forecast details will continue to be refined as Thursday approaches.
A few lingering showers are possible early Friday, but improving conditions are expected through the afternoon. The weather looks favorable for Juneteenth celebrations and outdoor plans heading into the weekend.
Summer-like warmth will continue through the official start of summer on Sunday, with temperatures remaining in the 80s and a mix of sunshine and dry weather expected for much of the weekend.
