thanks and if you're looking for ways to beat the heat this summer, why not go skiing or even snowboarding? We know just the place for you. Big snow at american dream in East Rutherford New Jersey. So I just like being in the outdoors. I mean it's where I've always been, it's where I like to be. I was an instructor at Mountain Creek for years and it was a part time job that was 40 hours a week every winter. And so when this opened up, it's just a natural fit to come here, especially for learning. You don't need a bigger hell than this. So it's perfect. We opened in December of 2019. We're at 28° all the time. We make snow. The advantage you have here is the climate's the same. So you have no ice, you have no hard pack, it's always the same consistency. You can come in in flip flops and a T shirt and we can outfit you from top to bottom. We have the outfitting your helmets, of course, ski or snowboard depending on what you're choosing to do with all of your tickets to come in. It comes with free lessons as well. So you're gonna have an athletic stance so your knees are gonna be bent but your body, your shoulders is gonna be over that stance. So you're balanced on top of your flexibility. So you're able to bend your knees and flex in different directions, but the top part of the body kind of stays still and steers you, how many times have you gone down skiing is like a legacy for us. He's 4.5 years old. He's been on skis twice before. It was really important for us to have our son learned how to ski. We kind of thought that was continuing a family tradition. So we put features in the park over there. We change features weekly and then we do a complete rebuild probably every two months. And by doing that, it keeps it fresh and changes all the time. We also provide sledding for it's a, it's really the, if you don't want to ski or snowboard because you're a little afraid of it. You have snow go. Snow go is a bike and a great thing about snow go is if you've ridden a bike, you can ride a snow go. You'll be able to learn the process of how to do it and how to the motions to do it. But you have to build up the confidence as you go along, learn it now while before the winter comes. So you learn it and then take what you learn to the outdoors. Looks like fun. The largest indoor Buddha statue in the western hemisphere is right here in the Hudson Valley News twelve's Niki Ramos has taken us on this week's road trip close to home, come travel to China with us 1000 years ago and you don't even have to leave the Hudson Valley on this road trip close to home to the Chong Monastery in Putnam County tucked in the town of Kent. Within hundreds of acres sits the tranquil home of Buddhist Association of the United States. The mission here is to try to introduce the Buddhist teaching fully with wisdom and compassion. Whether you practice or not, you can sign up for a wide range of programs that will teach you all about Buddhist traditions, meditations and more. It's all within the walls of ancient architectural styles of the Tang dynasty. We are inside the Great Buddha Hall right now and the first thing that your eyes will notice is this towering centerpiece. This is the largest indoor Buddha statue in the western hemisphere standing 37 ft tall with 10,000 smaller statues surrounding it on this mo terrace, 84 ft tall building it space and it reflects the mindset that you should bring with you and the spirit of the monastery right next door is Guangying Hall where you'll see Buddha statues that date back to more than 1000 years. And here at the 1000 lotus memorial terrace, it's where the community lays the ashes of their loved ones to rest the serene grounds. Here have so much to offer for your day trip. Well, we are going on a road trip close to home to experience the power of Play. Twelve's photojournalist, John Dulac takes us to the Westchester Children's Museum. These are learning en environments for everybody. It is called a Children's Museum. But definitely the grown ups have just as much fun. Music and movement time is that get up and move song and dance time with puppets and musical instruments and props to get kids and their bodies moving musically. One of my favorites is the pool noodle pixel wall. It's an ever changing collaborative mural that is over 48 ft long and more than 2500 pegs where visitors of all ages interact with it and it's a constantly evolving and changing mosaic mural. A couple of my other favorite exhibits are the build your own roller coaster area and the wind tubes in the wind tubes. You can use scarves and different objects to watch them fly as exam as you examine the physics of drag and force. I see it a lot with some of the parents they're engaging with their Children. Their child is moving on to a new exhibit but the child, the parents. I wasn't, I wasn't done playing. I wanted to. So it's, it's, it's wonderful to be able to see that grown ups. Get to see just how powerful playful learning is. Play is learning. It's not, it's not a luxury. Connecticut's first cultural district. Ridgefield boasts a walkable downtown, filled with restaurants, boutiques, theaters, museums, and much more in this week's road trip. Close to home news, 12 photojournalist, Laurie Goliath gives us a glimpse of main street. Welcome to Ridgefield. Ridgefield is art creativity, fun inviting. This is incredible. Welcome to Queen B. We're on Main Street in Ridgefield. We make everything in house. We do roast our own coffee. So that's a big deal. I think what's special about this town and how it's been created is the idea that you have so many local people that have open businesses here. You have great specialty shops. You've got bakeries, you have gluten free options, you have vegan options. It's not a huge town and yet we have, you know, specialty wine stores, uh just about every type of food you can imagine. In addition, we have amazing boutiques with wonderful clothing of all, for all types and a real old fashioned bookstore that carries everything and there's so lovely people and a toy store that's been there forever. That is that feeling of what I think so many areas are missing, good people, good product and really good intentions that's holding that old time feeling but still modern. We have people that will drive into town to take their dog for a walk on main street. Everybody's smiling this town, the dogs are smiling this town, the hot dogs from the stand over there. Richfield is the best town in the United States, the history, the culture, the arts, it's all here. We have the Birchfield Playhouse, one of the best musical venues in the greater New York City area. We have active Connecticut, one of the best equity acting uh companies that you'll find uh for as a regional theater. It's a great night where you can see some of the best talent you will ever see. We have the Prospector Theater. The prospector offers employment. It provides a social environment and it changes people's lives. The Aldrich Museum just celebrated their 60th anniversary here. You have contemporary art in the middle of an historical district and it is as much a part of main street as the killer tavern with the cannonball stuck in the, in the side of the house. Ridgefield is the only place in the state of Connecticut where a land battle was fought during the revolutionary war. History is a very important to this community. First time in 10 years at Macy's Fourth of July, fireworks will once again light up the sky over the Hudson River. You'll be able to see them up close from our riverside communities like Hoboken Jersey City, Weehawken 48th edition of Macy's Fourth of July. Fireworks will fire off from barges located on the river. Those who live in those waterfront communities overlooking the city are just thrilled to have the show once again in their backyard. We've seen the fireworks on top of our building and uh pretty much Jersey City has their fireworks and New York, Macy's has always been downtown and I think it's great that they're gonna have it right across from the Hudson here. And I think it's gonna be great for us on this side of the river to see it. I love, I love the fireworks. I love this place. So the location is amazing for different, you know, views and it's a perfect location for us. Check everything. There's still no word if any events will take place in our riverside cities like Hoboken, New Jersey City during the fireworks show.

The Bruce Museum in Greenwich brings art science and natural history all together. Now, a $67 million building project has more than doubled its size. This week's road trip, close to home news, 12 photo journalist, Laurie Goli takes us to the New Bruce that we have a much larger space with different galleries with different periods of art and a sculpture gallery. We are at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut. We just reopened on April 2nd with our new expansion, we now have three classrooms for education programs. My favorite part has to be being able to go into all the galleries and just looking at the expanded collection in pieces. It's so bright and welcoming. And we also have the new Robert R Weiner Mineral Gallery which is a permanent installation and is just spectacular. The mineral collection is out of this world. Currently, we have a penguin exhibit. Visitors will see all types of penguins. So we're all familiar with the Antarctic species like the emperor penguin, but you might not know about the little blue penguin who is only about £2 and stands about one ft tall. So we have two of those and a baby. Um, you'll see the yellow eyed penguin, which as advertised has bright yellow eyes. We have penguins that live in deserts. We have penguins that live on rocky Sub Antarctic islands. We have penguins that even breed in coastal forests. The space is wonderful. It lets us tell the full story of some of these amazing creatures that's worth it right there for the kids. There's also a permanent installation. This is called Natural Cycles Shape our lands and it has geology, paleontology. Some Long Island sound a little bit about the ice age and then the big backyard, which is one of my favorite parts. It features diorama of insects and other invertebrates at 20 times life scale. So you'll see, you know, a bumble bee, the size of a small dog, for example. Um That's a lot of fun, beautifully executed. So you really get to see details that you would never be able to witness if you're just looking at the animal, you know, crawling around on a leaf. Uh It's really something to see if this size. You can see some live flounders and crabs in, in our um marine gallery. The Bruce museum is a real asset to the community and people come here just to get away from the outside world. What makes The Bruce special to me is that we're a museum of art and science and there's not many museums that do both. I think, you know, we're even better than before. It's got something for everyone. Now that we have a cafe and a huge auditorium, even more people can come enjoy the Bruce Museum. It's a real destination that's beautiful and really inviting for everyone. Well, they did a beautiful job, didn't they? Yes. Yes. That first when you walk in and you see all the rainbow colors, blue and those paintings gorgeous. And there's so much to see as they said. So Tuesday is free day at the Bruce and reservations are suggested the Bruce stores also open during museum hours. So if you like more information, head over to news 12 dot com.
