Democratic challenger Tom Zugibe managed to narrowly upset District Attorney Michael Bongiorno to become the new Rockland County district attorney.
Zugibe pulled in just over 1,200 more votes to edge out the incumbent. His 31,233 ballots translated to approximately 51 percent of the vote.
It was a big upset for Bongiorno, who has served as Rockland County?s DA for 12 years. Zugibe was able to cash in on his family?s political standing in the region to grab just over half the votes and force the Republican out of office.
