A Long Island man is pushing his endurance to the limit in a multistate run that's aiding a cause close to his heart.
Matteo DeVincenzo, 22 of Port Jefferson, is about to hit the road like he's never done before -- he's running for 30 days straight, 15 miles per day in 29 states and Washington, D.C.
He's combining his passions in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
"Cancer has impacted my family over my lifetime," says DeVincenzo. "My grandpa passed away from colon cancer. My aunt has battled breast cancer for years. My grandmother is still battling ovarian and breast cancer."
DeVincenzo says he says the next 30 days will be very challenging, but not comparable to those suffering with cancer, saying, "This is going to be a journey where I'm going to have to fight and endure."
He says he's ready after completing a marathon last month and training for weeks. He says he won't be running for time. Along the way, he's looking forward to seeing sights and visiting friends -- and meeting family in Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving.
"I'm looking forward to Boston, Massachusetts. Once I get out west, I'll be in LA, Flagstaff, Arizona, St. Louis I'm going to be in," he says.
His challenge begins in Port Jefferson Saturday, where he'll then take a ferry to Connecticut.
