1 person injured in boat collision off Fire Island

One person from the 29-foot vessel was injured and recovered from the water.

One person was injured when two boats collided 17 miles south of Fire Island, the Coast Guard says.
The vessels involved were a 31-foot boat named Birthcontrol and a 29-foot boat named Jennap, each carrying two people.
The person injured was in the 29-foot vessel and was recovered from the water. The NYPD airlifted the individual to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Coast Guard crews from Station Fire Island and Station Jones Beach assisted with dewatering and are towing both vessels back for evaluation.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
