Two people died in a Dutchess County fire this weekend.
Fire officials say the victims were trapped inside a home on South Elm Avenue in Millerton just before 8 a.m. Saturday.
State police identified the victims as 24-year-old Jenny Yang and 30-year-old Wangdi Tamang.
Amy Yang, 51, managed to escape. She was taken to Sharon Hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The Yang family is a fixture of the Millerton community, being owners of a local gas station and restaurant.
The community is now lending a helping hand, including Monica Baker who taught four of the children at Webutuck Elementary.
"People have been reaching out to me constantly saying, 'What do they need?' Coats, shoes, furniture, appliances, beds. The entire community is rallying together to show their support," said Baker.
A GoFundMe started Sunday by Baker already has more than double the initial goal of $30,000.
"I think that's the beauty of a small close-knit community, that we stick together, and we support each other in times of need," she said.
A community event will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Millerton Fire House for anyone struggling.
