2 HV schools finalists of 'green' contest
Two schools in the cash-strapped Clarsktown School District have made it to the finals of the "America's Greenest School" competition.
Clarkstown High School North and Congers Elementary School are now in the top 10 after having been chosen from more than 500 schools nationwide.
Congers Elementary School recycles not only plastic and paper, but also old CDs that are used for crafts. The students also released a rap song about the environment.
The schools hope those initiatives will help them win one of the top prizes, which include a $150,000 hybrid bus and a $20,000 school makeover.
The Clarkstown School District is facing budget cuts totaling $5.9 million.
