A teenage boy remains in critical condition after he and another teen were pulled from the Bronx River at Starlight Park on Friday.
The 13-year-old boys, who are believed to be cousins, went for a swim in the Bronx River Friday afternoon when they ran into trouble, prompting emergency crews to launch a rescue effort for the boys. One of teens was rescued within minutes, and is in critical condition at Montefiore Medical Center.
The other boy, identified as Erikson Villa, was pulled from the water about an hour after the search had begun. He was pronounced dead at Saint Barnabas Hospital.
Residents who frequent the park say a guardrail should be installed to prevent people swimming, which is prohibited.
In 2010, a 15-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy drowned in the Bronx River, about a mile north of Starlight Park.
