Firefighters rappelled down the side of a Yonkers high-rise building tonight to rescue two men who were dangling from safety ropes after their scaffolding had apparently collapsed.

The first man was rescued at about sunset when firefighter Michael Giroux rappelled down from the roof of the Nepperhan Avenue building, 13 stories above, to the men's location. Giroux secured the man closest to the ground and descended with him to street level.
About half an hour later, the second man reached the ground in Giroux's grip.
Both of the men were taken to Westchester Medical Center where officials say they were being treated for minor hypothermia and harness compression syndrome. They say both men have since been released.
