Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann has been given the go-ahead to run for a third term.
The state Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the town’s 2014 term limits law was invalid because it should have been voted on in a referendum.
Hoehmann had challenged the law, and a state Supreme court judge ruled against him. But an appellate Court then sided with him, and that ruling was upheld by the Court of Appeals.
The decision could set up a GOP primary as Rockland County GOP Chairman Lawrence Garvey has announced his candidacy.
Town Clerk Justin Sweet is running on the Democratic line.
