The Town of East Fishkill Supervisor Nicolas D'Alessandro declared a state of emergency due to the fallout from Sunday’s storm.
D’Alessandro’s decree comes as the roadways have become impassable in the area.
East Fishkill officials wrote a letter recommending residents get out of their homes there until late Monday.
There’s also concern the Carol Bridge Drive, which has been dealing with ongoing construction, could be washed out. That dilemma would make it impossible for first responders to get to people on the other side.
As of Monday night, only homeowners with SUVs and trucks can cross because the bridge is flooding.
Because of potential flooding, damage, and debris, Townsend Road, Phillips Road and Miller Hill/Wonderland have all been shut down.
D'Alessandro says he expects flood waters to recede overnight so it should be safe for people on Carol Bridge Drive to return after that.
