Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.

A West Haverstraw man, Joseph Caraccia, has been apprehended for allegedly abusing an 8-month-old puppy in the Garden State Plaza parking lot in New Jersey. According to police reports, a witness observed Caraccia punching, kicking, and throwing the puppy into a car. Security footage supports these claims. The puppy, named Stormy, was returned to its owner later that night. Caraccia is now facing charges of animal abuse.

An investigation is underway in Dutchess County following an incident at the Fishkill Correctional Facility. An investigator from the State Corrections Department's Office of Special Investigations accidentally discharged a firearm while loading it. The investigator was transferred to a local hospital and has since been released.

Police are investigating a series of car thefts and reports of suspicious activity in a New Windsor neighborhood. Early Monday morning, two unlocked cars had personal items and change stolen from them in Squire Village and Plum Point. Additionally, a group of up to five individuals attempted to break into a third car. As of now, no arrests have been made.
