Girls in Aviation Day takes off in Westchester County

A Dutchess County man has been charged in connection to a fatal accident in Putnam County.

The Putnam Sheriff's Office says 56-year-old Marcos Martinez, of Hopewell Junction, was northbound on Route 9 just before 10 p.m. on Saturday when the incident occurred.

Police say his vehicle crossed over the double yellow line near Stone Ridge Road and struck a southbound vehicle head-on.

The driver, 52-year-old Joe Stubblefield, of Cortlandt Manor, was killed.

A 7-year-old passenger in the rear seat was taken to Westchester Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. 

Martinez was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and failure to use a designated lane.

He was arraigned in Phillipstown Town Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail on $250,000 cash bail.
