Nyack School District leaders held special closed-door meeting Friday night in Nyack High School to address the vote of no confidence of Superintendent Susan Yom.
Five teachers' unions, secretaries and security guards issued the collective vote of no confidence.
The vote communicates to the school board that the teachers' unions do not believe Yom is up to the job.
News 12 was told the unions are upset about what they call hostile interactions between Yom and staff, incompetence, bullying, and low morale.
They say because of that low morale, the district can't retain teachers and other staff.
Parents say the situation is detrimental.
"To see what's going on right now, it's disheartening. It's heartbreaking. We have teachers that are probably going to leave," said parent Nicki Iasillo. "Who's going to teach our kids and who's going to want to come to this district when they see what's going on here?"
The board released a statement during the meeting, saying they asked the teachers' union to keep contract talks out of the news and off social media.
"I'm not prepared to comment further than the statement we put out. We have a superintendent in place and that's all we're prepared to say," said School Board President Karen Hughes.
In their statement, the board did not offer any indication as to how they feel about the controversy and criticism of Yom. They did say Yom has a three-year contract and they evaluate her regularly.
News 12 reached out to Yom for comment but was still waiting to hear back as of Friday night.
