A 14-year-old Middletown High School student is expected to face charges after police say the teen made alarming threats of school violence to classmates.
City of Middletown police say the teen told two students at dismissal Monday that they were planning on bringing weapons to the high school the next day. Authorities say the threat wasn’t reported by the students until later that evening, just before 9 p.m.
Officials say the teens came forward after the same student sent them two photos of weapons with the message, “Don’t come to school tomorrow,” with a heart emoji.
Police say the department notified the school district and identified the teen who was interviewed with their parents by law-enforcement. Several knives and a BB gun were taken from the teen’s home, according to police who say the student is expected to be charged as a juvenile.
The Middletown school district superintendent Amy Creeden says additional police are on campus Tuesday as a result and that disciplinary action will be taken against the 14-year-old who made the threats as per the district’s code of conduct.
