A federal appeals court has revived a lawsuit challenging student speech policies in the Croton-Harmon School District.
A group of parents alleges district policies adopted by the school system violated students' constitutional rights by forcing them to support views on sensitive topics with which they disagreed.
A federal judge had previously dismissed the lawsuit.
However, an appeals panel reversed that decision Tuesday and sent the case back to federal court.
The parents contend the policies infringed on students' free speech rights.
Croton-Harmon school officials have said the district is a place where students and staff can feel safe, supported and respected.
