Hundreds gathered in Mamaroneck Saturday to take part in an event raising awareness and supporting those impacted by suicide.

The Out of the Darkness Walk, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, was held at Harbor Island Park.

The event aims to provide participants with a sense of connection, comfort and hope for the future.

Shirts, signs and beads honored those who have been lost to suicide.

“We are walking out of the Darkness. We are bringing hope and healing to people who have been affected by suicide. Through my own healing journey, I've discovered that the best way for me to heal is to connect with people, and help other people,” said loss survivor Sue Papa.
