A retaining wall collapsed behind several homes on Leighton Avenue near South Broadway in Yonkers, damaging a nearby former car dealership building and raising questions about who is responsible for repairs.

Yonkers firefighters responded to the scene earlier today. There are no confirmed reports of injuries or damage to vehicles.

Neighbors say the wall had been a concern for years.

“They just kept building higher and higher and higher until the rains came in and all that weight just crushed everything down,” said Andrew Kmeta, who lives nearby.

The owner of the main home affected told News 12 they had wanted to get the wall fixed, but had not been able to find the time or resources.

News 12 has reached out to the Yonkers Fire Department, which has confirmed there are no injuries.
