For nearly a week, Jeremiah Small has been living with puddles of water throughout his Baychester apartment.
On Tuesday, the 28-year-old father of four said the conditions have forced him and his family out of their home.
"It's definitely brown water with a lot of feces in it," said Small.
The father shared with News 12 notices of failed inspections by the building for structural and roach infestations dating back to last year. He said the issues in the bathroom have been going on for much longer.
"Me and my family haven't used that bathroom for two years. Like, shower-wise, we've been going to hotels or family relative's house to shower because it's unsanitary," he said.
The nightmare for the family continues inside the kitchen counters. Piles of dead roaches can be seen under the sink, and Small said his young children are noticing them throughout the apartment.
"My kids tell me every day, 'Daddy, I think a cockroach is coming out the vent in the bathroom,'" he said.
News 12 tried to reach out to the landlord but was only able to leave a voicemail.
In a statement to News 12, HPD wrote, “Every New Yorker deserves a safe place to call home, and HPD’s enforcement team takes that responsibility extremely seriously. HPD has received the recent complaints at 3135 Seymour Avenue, and our team is working to get there as soon as possible to inspect and issue violations where necessary."
