Watertown-based company Packaging and Crating Technologies, or PACT, is working to support overseas troops in an eco-friendly way.
The company has developed a line of corrugated cardboard shipping containers, as well as fire-suppressant paper wrap for lithium battery fires, which it says are fully reusable and recyclable.
PACT's COO Rodger Mort says the containers they have developed are stronger and more water-resistant than others, making them able to handle extreme pressures and temperatures, which has made them ideal for military transportation.
When they are done, Mort says they can be brought to any recycling center or dumpster.
As for the fire-resistant wrap, Mort says it is made out of 100% recycled paper and coated with a proprietary organic ink, which helps trap heat and suffocate lithium battery fires, which often need to be smothered to be put out. The wraps can also be reused multiple times.
PACT has also come out with a new eco-friendly fire extinguisher for lithium fires, using a water-based solution, leaving behind only a powder that can easily be cleaned off.
